North Pole Expedition, Young Business Forum Reception, 7 August, 2008

Young Business Forum

Ben Wheaton, Partner, Climate Change Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Matt McFadyen, Adventurer, shared their personal challenges and triumphs during their North Pole expedition and learned first hand what impact climate change is having on the region at the Chamber's Young Business Forum reception in Sydney. This event was kindly partnered by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone, anywhere who hasn’t heard of the North Pole. It has been captured in our imagination as a land of perpetual ice and snow, not to mention the home of Santa Claus! It’s impossible not to feel deeply saddened by the thought of it disappearing.

Matt McFayden, a young Australian adventurer, and Ben Wheaton, PricewaterhouseCoopers Climate Change Services Partner and ambassador for Al Gore’s Global Climate Project, trekked to the North Pole in April this year.

Matt and Ben shareed with us their incredible journey as they trekked their way to the top of the world. Over six days and nights they were faced with freezing temperatures of more than -40°C, battled strong winds, ice rubble, and the ever present possibility of coming face-to-face with polar bears. Despite these challenges, the team was proud to make it to the North Pole…and return!
