Richard Freudenstein, Chief Executive Officer, Foxtel, 19 Aug 2015

BUSINESS LUNCH

Richard Freudenstein, Chief Executive Officer, Foxtel, addressed a Business Lunch for over 160 senior business executives in an interactive discussion around “Business Transformation: Innovating for the Future of Media”. This lunch was proudly sponsored by Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

At 20 years old, Foxtel is now a hugely successful media enterprise. However, no business in this space can afford to stand still, so over the past 12 months Foxtel has radically changed its business model to reinvigorate growth and position itself to meet an increasingly competitive marketplace. Richard Freudenstein discussed those changes, their impact on the business to date and how he sees Foxtel further adapting to meet the challenges of the future.

As CEO of Foxtel, Richard has overseen the finalisation and implementation of the Austar merger, forming a single national subscription television business, and more recently the introduction of Foxtel’s new pricing and packaging, which is already changing the dynamic in the Australian market.

This year Richard has led the launch of Foxtel’s television, broadband and telephony bundles and the amazing iQ3 set top box.

Other significant milestones during his time at Foxtel have included: the award winning coverage of London Olympics, the launch of Foxtel Go and Foxtel Play, finalisation of major content deals with HBO, the BBC and Disney, the launch of the Foxtel Movies service, the launch of the Presto online movie service and the new PrestoTV service.

Richard was formerly the CEO of News Digital Media (the digital division of News Limited) and CEO of The Australian newspaper.  Prior to News Digital Media, Richard worked at British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) for seven years, including six years as Chief Operating Officer.

Richard is a director of Real Estate Group Limited, Foxtel, ASTRA, Presto Entertainment and MCN. He is also a member of the Business Council of Australia.
