Jonathan (Jon) Medved, ISRAEL The Start-Up Nation, Monday 28 October 2013

Jonathan (Jon) Medved addressed a private boardroom lunch event for 30 senior business executives where he discussed what makes Israel such a unique entrepreneurial eco-system. This event was proudly hosted by UTS Business School.

In the midst of all the turmoil in the Middle East, there’s a remarkable story of innovation.

With a population of fewer than eight million, Israel produces more start-up companies than much larger nations such as Japan, China, India, Korea, Canada, and the UK. On a per-capita basis, Israel has attracted over twice as much venture capital investment as the US and thirty times more than Europe. Israeli innovation is not limited to computers, security, and communications; the Jewish state leads the world in medical device patents and is a strong global player in cleantech and biotech.

According to the Washington Post Jon is “one of Israel’s leading high tech venture capitalists”. The New York Times ranked him as one of the top 10 most influential Americans who have impacted Israel.

Jon is the Founder and CEO of OurCrowd, an innovative equity-based crowd-funding platform.

Over the years Jon has invested in more than 100 Israeli start-up companies, helping 12 of them reach valuations in excess of $100 million dollars. Jon was the co-founder and until recently the CEO of Vringo, a leader in mobile social applications which went public in June 2010. (NASDAQ: VRNG). Prior to Vringo, he was the founder and general partner of Israel Seed Partners (a $260M Israeli venture capital fund).
