Business Lunch
Richard Goyder addressed a business lunch of 750 business executives moderated by Helen Dalley, Sky News Business. This event was proudly partnered by Allens Arthur Robinson and Deutsche Bank.
From its origins in 1914 as a Western Australian farmers' cooperative, Wesfarmers has grown into one of Australia's largest listed companies. With a shareholder base of more than 450,000, it is one of Australia’s largest employers (210,000 employees).
Its diverse business operations cover: supermarkets (Coles, Bi-Lo and Vintage Cellars); department stores (including K-Mart, Target), home improvement (Bunnings) and office supplies (Officeworks; Harris Technology); coal mining (including Premier Coal); energy (including Coregas; Kleenheat Gas); insurance (Lumley Insurance); chemicals and fertilisers; and industrial and safety products.
In November 2007, Wesfarmers made its most audacious purchase when it acquired Coles which has over 11 million customer transactions a week. According to IBISWorld, for every $10 spent in Australian shops, $1.30 goes through the tills of Wesfarmers.
Richard Goyder has been the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wesfarmers since July 2005 having joined the organisation in 1993 and having held various senior positions over that time. Richard is a Director of Gresham Partners Holdings Ltd, the Fremantle Football Club Limited and a number of Wesfarmers Group subsidiaries. He is also a director of the Business Council of Australia.
