Property 2013 - A Panel of Experts Dissect the Industry

The AICC Qld welcomed 96 senior executives at a business lunch on Thursday 21 November 2013 where they presented "Property 2013 - a panel of experts dissect the industry". Guest speakers included Paul Bidwell, Deputy Executive Director, Master Builders; David Whitting, General Manager Qld, Grocon; Rayuha Sinnathamby, Managing Director, Springfield Land Corporation and the event was moderated by Lynda Woods, Private Client Investment Adviser from RBS Morgans. After three years of an ailing property market and an uncertain future for the property industry in Queensland, recent trends show that Brisbane house prices are starting to see its first increases, and along with an improvement in house buying affordability, economists advise these signs are indicative of market recovery. There has also been talk of the possibility of an astonishing turnaround for the industry in the near future.

On the other hand, commercial property has not yet seen the same market relief. Economists spell a major downturn in the commercial construction industry as high vacancy rates, due to a range of tough economic factors, mean office and retail supply is already outstripping demand in Brisbane’s struggling commercial real estate market.

Our four prominent industry experts, included:

David Whitting, General Manager QLD, Grocon

David joined Grocon in 2012 as General Manager Queensland where he is responsible for project origination and developing and delivering the Queensland Portfolio.

Prior to joining Grocon, David spent three years with Lang O’Rourke delivering the mixed use M & A development consisting of 20,000m² commercial 234 apartments and 3000m² of retail in Fortitude Valley.

David’s experience covers involvement in many of Brisbane’s signature projects including Portside Wharf Hamilton, the Regent acquisition, and M & A Fortitude Valley.
